How to compare marketplace fees fairly
Headline rates hide what they are charged on. Etsy and eBay both take a percentage of shipping, and eBay also charges on the sales tax the buyer paid. Poshmark ignores shipping because the buyer pays for the label directly. Whatnot keeps shipping and tax out of its commission but not out of payment processing. Two platforms with the same percentage can take different amounts from the same order.
The fairest comparison is the money that reaches you after every fee on the same sale, which is what the table above and each calculator show. Enter the price, the shipping you charge, and your real costs, and compare net payout and profit rather than rates.
Flat fees matter most on cheap items
Per-order and per-listing charges are small in dollars and large in percentage on low-priced goods. Poshmark's flat $2.95 is about a quarter of a $12 sale, Etsy's fixed $0.20 listing and $0.25 processing charges push total fees on an $8 download to about 15%, and eBay adds $0.30 or $0.40 to every order. If most of your stock sells under $15, bundles and higher-value listings protect margin more than switching platforms does.
On expensive items the reverse happens. Percentage fees keep scaling, while some platforms cut the rate on the portion above a threshold: eBay drops to 2.35% above $7,500 in most categories, and Amazon charges less on the part of a jewelry or watch sale above its threshold.
Price backwards from the profit you need
Every calculator has a reverse mode. Enter the profit in dollars or the margin you want, keep your costs filled in, and it returns the lowest price that reaches it after all fees. It accounts for steps in the fee schedule, such as the Poshmark $15 switch or Amazon clothing moving from 10% to 17% above $20, so the answer is a price that actually works rather than a rough markup.

How we keep fees current
All rates live in one data file, checked against each platform's official seller or help pages. Every calculator shows the date the fees were last verified and links to the source. Fees we could not confirm on an official page are left out and listed as open items rather than estimated. Platforms change fees without much notice, so confirm on the official site before you set prices.
Why there is no Vinted calculator
Vinted has no calculator here because US sellers pay nothing to sell: its help centre says there are no fees for uploading or selling items, and your payout is the full sale price. The buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee, which Vinted's US price list sets at $0.70 plus 5% of the item price. See Vinted's selling fees page.
