eBay charges one main fee, the final value fee, as a percentage of the total amount of the sale: item price, the shipping the buyer paid, and sales tax. In most categories the rate is 13.6% on the first $7,500 of an item and 2.35% on anything above that. Books, movies, and music pay 15.3%; trading cards, comics, and coins pay 13.25%; guitars and basses 6.7%.
A few categories switch rate based on the whole sale instead of slicing it. Sneakers drop to 8% once the total reaches $150, and eBay also waives the per-order fee on them. Handbags pay 15% up to $2,000 and 9% above; jewelry pays 15% up to $5,000 and 9% above. The calculator applies the right method for each category you pick.
On top of the percentage, every order pays a per-order fee: $0.30 when the order total is $10 or less, $0.40 above. Promoted Listings on the general strategy add the ad rate you chose, charged on the same tax-inclusive total, but only when a promoted item sells within 30 days of a click.
Two surcharges are toggles because they only hit some sellers: 1.65% when the buyer is outside the US (not charged when you use eBay International Shipping), and a 6% Below Standard surcharge that stops once your account is back to Above Standard.
Fee = category rate x (item + shipping + tax), per item and tiered + $0.30 or $0.40 per order [+ ad rate x total] [+ 1.65% international] [+ 6% Below Standard]
