What it does

Type the original price and the discount percentage, and the calculator shows how much comes off and what the customer pays, both to two decimals. It updates as you type, so you can try 15%, 20%, and 25% in a few seconds and compare.

Creators use it to set prices for a merch drop, a Black Friday code, or a bundle deal before announcing it. Shoppers use it to check whether a "30% off" tag really lands at the price they expect. It answers the customer-side question only; to see what a discount does to your profit, run the new price through the margin calculator.

How to use it

  1. 1

Enter the regular price in Original price.

  2. 2

Enter the percentage off in Discount %.

  3. 3

Read You save for the amount taken off and Final price for what the customer pays.

  4. 4

Try other percentages in Discount % to compare offers.

What you get

Four stats: You save (amount off), Final price, the Discount percentage, and the Original price, with money values shown to two decimals.

When to use it

Price a merch sale
Check what a $35 hoodie costs at 20% off before writing the promo post, so the caption shows the right number.
Set a promo code level
Compare the final price at several discount rates and pick one that still clears your cost.
Write accurate sale copy
Get the exact savings figure for "Save $7" style headlines and banners.
Check a deal while shopping
Confirm the checkout price of a percentage-off offer before you buy.

Example

Input

Original price: 35
Discount %: 20

Output

You save: $7.00 | Final price: $28.00 | Discount: 20% | Original: $35.00

20% of 35 is 7, and 35 minus 7 leaves 28.

Tips

  • After picking a discount, enter your unit cost and the new sale price in the margin calculator to confirm the sale still makes money.
  • Two discounts do not add up: 20% off and then another 10% off is 28% off in total, not 30%. Run the first final price back through the tool for the second discount.
  • Results are shown with a $ sign, but the math works for any currency. Just read the numbers in your own currency.
  • Round the final price to a clean figure in your post (for example $27.99) and mention the exact savings.

Questions

How do I calculate two stacked discounts?

Apply them one after the other. Run the first discount, copy the Final price into Original price, then enter the second percentage. Stacked discounts are always less than their sum.

How do I find the original price from a sale price?

This calculator works forward from the original price. To go backwards, divide the sale price by (1 minus the discount rate): $28 at 20% off means 28 / 0.8 = $35.

Does the discount calculator include sales tax?

No. It applies only the percentage off. Add tax to the final price separately using your local rate.

How is a discount different from margin?

A discount is what the customer saves off the list price. Margin is the share of the selling price you keep after cost. A 20% discount can cut your margin by much more than 20 points.
