Whatnot's commission is charged on the item price only; the shipping and sales tax a buyer pays are left out. The rate depends on the category (the show's category for live sales, the product's category for marketplace sales) and on your sales tier.
Your tier comes from total sales across all categories in a four-week period, and it sets the rate for the next period. Standard, under $15,000, pays 8% in most categories and 4% for coins and money. Each tier above lowers the rate, down to 6.5% for sports and trading cards and 4.5% for fashion at the top public tiers. Private shows, local pickup, and cancelled orders do not count toward the total.
Payment processing is separate: 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction on the full order, meaning item, buyer-paid shipping, and tax. Tier discounts do not reduce it, so on cheap items processing can cost more than the commission. A $5 card with $4.99 shipping pays $0.40 commission and $0.59 processing.
Promotions can lower your rate for a while, such as new-seller offers or 0% commission on the part of a sale above $1,500 in selected categories. Because they are temporary, the calculator uses your earned tier rate.

Through October 31, 2026 the Premier Shop discount takes 10% off your tier rate, so a 5% rate becomes 4.5%. From November 1 Premier Shop no longer includes a commission discount. This calculator does not apply it.
A limited-time promotion that began January 14, 2026: no commission on the part of a single order above $1,500 in categories such as trading cards, sports singles, coins, comics, toys, bags, and jewelry. Processing is still charged on the full amount.
