Mention Extractor

Paste any post text and get a single copyable line of the @handles it tags, with repeats removed.

Instagram ToolsInstagram, X

What it does

Collab posts, giveaway entries and event recaps often tag a dozen accounts, and retyping them is slow and error-prone. This extractor finds every @ that starts a word, followed by letters, numbers, underscores or dots, drops any trailing full stop, removes exact repeats, and lists the handles in the order they appear.

It is useful when you need to credit the same people in a follow-up post, build an outreach list from a round-up, or double-check that everyone who should be tagged actually is.

How to use it

  1. 1

Paste your text into the "Post text" box.

  2. 2

    Check the "Mentions" count.

  3. 3

Review the "Extracted" line for anything that is not a real handle.

  4. 4

Click the copy button beside "Extracted" to copy the handles as one line.

What you get

One space-separated line of unique @handles in first-appearance order, plus a count of how many were found.

When to use it

Giveaway entry lists
Paste copied comments to list which accounts were tagged by entrants, then check them against the rules.
Credits for a collab post
Extract the photographer, stylist and venue handles from the original post so the repost credits match exactly.
Outreach from a round-up
Paste a "brands we love" caption and copy the handles into your outreach tracker.

Example

Input

Shot with @anna.films for @Nike. Questions? hello@studio.co or ping @anna.films

Output

Extracted: @anna.films @Nike
Mentions: 2

The repeated @anna.films is listed once, the full stop after @Nike is dropped, and hello@studio.co is ignored because its @ sits inside a word.

Tips

  • Dots inside a handle such as @anna.films are kept, but a dot at the end is treated as punctuation and removed, which matches how Instagram handles work.
  • An @ in the middle of a word, as in an email address, is not counted, so you do not need to strip emails from the text first.
  • Repeats are matched exactly, so @Nike and @nike both appear. Platforms treat them as one account, so keep one.

Questions

Can I use the extracted list to tag everyone in a new post?

Yes, paste the line into your caption, but check your platform's tagging limits first. Instagram, for example, restricts how many accounts one caption can mention, and posts with long tag lists can be flagged as spam.

Does it confirm that each handle is a real account?

No. It only matches the text pattern. A misspelled handle or a deleted account still appears in the list, so spot-check important ones on the platform.

Will it pick up mentions from a pasted X thread?

Yes. Paste all the posts in the thread as one block and every @handle across them is listed once.
